Alan Pace’s Burnley FC call to arms after closing gap on Leeds United, Sheffield United

Burnley FC chairman Alan Pace has issued a call to arms to the club’s supporters after the Clarets reduced the distance on the Championship’s top two on Friday night.

Scott Parker’s side defeated Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Turf Moor, thanks to a merciless second-half performance that included goals from Marcus Edwards, Josh Brownhill, Connor Roberts, and Manuel Benson.

Burnley is now only two points behind Sheffield United and four points behind table-toppers Leeds United after their victory.

Parker and his team will be watching closely as the top two meet at Bramall Lane on Monday night.

Alan Pace’s Burnley message

The Lancashire team needed to win their opening game of the weekend to set the tone for the week, as both Leeds and Sheffield United are expected to lose on Monday night.

Burnley’s clinical finishing after half-time saw them draw away from their opponents, who may have posed a difficult test before kick-off.

After the game, Clarets’ American chairman Alan Pace shared a message on Instagram to the club’s supporters: “It was definitely a game of two halves!” I’m really proud of the crew and enjoyed the noise you guys made. Let us continue to go forward and support the team. “Enjoy your weekend, Clarets!”

It might be a significant victory for Burnley, as depending on the outcome of Monday night’s promotion’six pointer’, Parker’s team could be within one game of the automatic slots.

Burnley’s incredible defensive record continues

Although they have become renowned for their defensive solidity this season, Parker’s men showed another side to their game with the win over Wednesday.

Scott Parker celebrates a Burnley FC victory

Burnley scored more than twice in a league game for only the second time since August. The win extends their unbeaten streak to 21 games, with their last defeat occurring in early November.

Friday night’s clean sheet was their 25th of the season and 12th consecutive in the league. They are now just two games away from tying the all-time English record for the most consecutive games without conceding, established by Alex Ferguson and Manchester United in 2008/09.

Burnley next 5 league games (as per Fotmob)
04/03 Cardiff City (A)
08/03 Luton Town (H)
11/03 West Brom (H)
15/03 Swansea City (A)
29/03 Bristol City (H)

With upcoming games against Cardiff, Luton, and Swansea, the Clarets have the potential to maintain their pressure on the top two.

The Championship’s top three have all been relentless this season, and while it may not be enough to secure Burnley’s return to the Premier League, all they can do is keep winning games in the hope that Leeds or the Blades fall up.
