The former Celtic star made the switch to Ligue 1 in January, but before he could properly settle in, Sampaoli was dismissed just days later after five consecutive defeats at the start of 2025.

With Habib Beye now taking over as head coach, Kyogo has spoken about the shock of seeing the manager who signed him leave almost immediately.

“I spoke with the previous coach before signing the contract,” he said, as quoted by RecordSport.

“I joined training for one or two days, and when I went in the morning the next day, everyone was talking about how the coach was going to be replaced.

“I was like ‘what?’ – I was surprised and disappointed.”

Kyogo, who was a key player at Celtic, has yet to establish himself at Rennes, and the managerial turmoil may make his transition to French football even tougher.

With Beye now in charge, it remains to be seen how the Japanese forward will fit into the new manager’s plans.

Celtic had known of Kyogo’s intentions to leave well before he made the move to the French league, yet, no replacement striker was brought in.

Johnny Kenny has been left to be Adam Idah’s competition, and despite playing well in the League of Ireland and in the UEFA Europa Conference League on loan, he’s yet to impress at Celtic. It’s led to Daizen Maeda leading the line at some points, despite Rodgers on the record saying that he sees the Japanese fporward as a winger, not a striker.
