‘Excellent’ – Bradford City man hailed by Graham Alexander as they prepare for MK Dons clash

Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has said he thought Jamie Walker was ‘excellent’ against Birmingham City earlier this week.

Bradford City are back in League Two action this weekend with a home clash against MK Dons. BCAFC are sat in 5th place in the table and are inside the play-offs with Notts County, Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra.

Walker, 31, has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season. He has chipped in with one goal and three assists.

Alexander has said, as per a report by The Yorkshire Post: “I thought he was excellent on Tuesday night in that role. I believe he has the attributes to play up front for our team.

“I don’t pigeonhole players. I look for the qualities they have and what we need in the team. We needed a goal threat as a nine and someone who can link the play – and that’s Jamie Walker. Physically, for me, was the biggest bonus. He hasn’t played a lot of games recently but his data was fantastic. Every credit to him.

“He’s got that thing inside him that we can’t coach. He knows how to create a chance or work towards a goal, he’s got that as a natural instinct.”

Walker’s contract at Bradford City expires at the end of this campaign and he is due to become a free agent in late June.

The Bantams have a decision to make regarding his long-term future at Valley Parade.

He joined the West Yorkshire club in 2022 on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent.

Walker has since played 113 games altogether and has chipped in with 19 goals and 10 ass

The former Scotland youth international is a product of the Hearts academy and broke into their first-team as a youngster after a loan spell away at Raith Rovers.

Wigan Athletic lured him down the border in 2018 but his time at the DW Stadium didn’t go to plan and he was shipped out on loan to Peterborough United.

He then returned to Hearts for a couple of years before giving England another go with Bradford City.

The Edinburgh-born man currently provides the Bantams with more competition and depth in their squad.

Alexander’s men will want to bounce back from their Vertu Trophy cup loss to Birmingham City with a win over MK Dons.

They missed out on a trip to Wembley after losing to the Blues but made a good account of themselves.
