Burnley FC may come to regret rejecting £25m Wolves transfer offer in summer window
Although Scott Parker stuck with the young Clarets prodigy for the majority of the season, he has struggled since returning to action and appears to be a shell of the player who was hurt in December 2023.
After missing the last two weeks due to injury, Koleosho is getting closer to playing again and making up for his dismal season debut, which saw him come and go from the club.
It’s safe to say that Burnley hasn’t missed him all that much in recent weeks, and the fact that striker Lyle Foster was playing on the wing in January instead of Koleosho is a clear indication of how awful he’s been so far this season.
Wolves showed a lot of interest in the young player throughout the summer, but the move never happened, and Burnley must be regretting that they passed up the Midlands club’s £25 million offer in August.
Burnley supporters were devastated when Koleosho was benched due to a serious knee injury he sustained during a match against Wolves in December 2023. They wondered how they would manage without a player who had ignited the Premier League in the first half of the season.
Interest in Koleosho, who had shown promise in his first season in the Premier League, was not a tremendous surprise, but given the injury, it was unclear how he would recover.
He hasn’t really responded to those inquiries in an impressive manner, and he hasn’t looked like a player worth £25 million this season, failing to make an impression at a lower level than he did the previous season.
Luca Koleosho’s Burnley FC 2024/25 Championship stats (As per Fotmob) | |
---|---|
Appearances | 25 |
Goals | 2 |
Assists | 0 |
Chances created | 28 |
Successful crosses | 20 |
Successful dribbles | 46 |
Koleosho is now colliding with defenders, whereas the previous season he was able to run through the narrowest spaces to open doors. This season, they’re going for goal kicks, but last season, he could deliver crosses into the box. Everything that might have gone wrong for him has.
Due to the severity of his injury, Koleosho has lost his explosive pace, which has significantly hampered his game as his primary winging ability was pace.
