Unai Emery’s assessment of Arne Slot clash with ‘fantastic’ verdict – ‘It’s Liverpool’
As the clubs tied 2-2 in the Premier League, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery believed his team earned a point against a “fantastic” Liverpool.
Although Mohamed Salah gave the Reds the lead, Arne Slot ultimately needed a goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold to secure a point. “I think it is fair, the result for both teams,” Emery said to the BBC. “Over the course of ninety minutes, we had two goals, but they continually threatened to take the lead and scored two more. They had chances, and we had chances to win.
“Like Liverpool, we are not content with a single outcome even though we were competing really well. We aim to outperform them and want to get better. They are amazing and play well. It is an additional advancement. They performed well, and we attempted to compete in our manner.”
Aston Villa hasn’t been playing well lately, even though they played well for the major event. Emery is also aware that his defense, which is now lacking a few important players, needs to figure out how to give up fewer goals.
“We are conceding more goals than normal and we have to correct it and work it,” he said. “We want to win, and when we are winning, it doesn’t matter if we give up goals; when we are losing, we have to give up less goals. Every day, we strive for improvement.
“Our style allows us to compete effectively. When they were also competing, we had to address their threat. After the way we played today, I believe the outcome was fair and positive.
“You have to wait your moment to attack and get chances like we had, and we did,” Emery had previously stated to TNT Sports. “We were competing very successfully, and we returned.
