David Moyes may have sympathy for Ruben Amorim. The Everton manager knows the pressures of being Manchester United boss, after all.
But it’s unlikely that Moyes will have too much comfort for his opposite number regarding injuries.
United will arrive at Goodison Park for Saturday’s 12.30pm kick-off on the back of a run of form that has seen them take just seven points from the last 18 on offer.
Over the same period, Everton, under the returning Moyes, have taken 13. It means the Blues are now one place and one point above the Red Devils.
Since taking over in November, Amorim has only managed to win four of his 14 Premier League games. He may
defend himself by citing a number of incapacitating injuries.
However, Moyes, who rejoined Everton in January, also faces challenges in that regard.
The Blues may have enjoyed this free week following the fantastic but exhausting 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace, but
there is no denying that they are down to the bare bones.
After being sent off in the tumultuous circumstances after the final Merseyside derby at Goodison, Abdoulaye
Doucoure was suspended for that game; nevertheless, he will play again against United.
However, eight players will probably be sidelined.Nathan Patterson might make a comeback, but strikers Dominique
Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja, and Yussef Chermiti are still out, as are midfielders Orel Mangala, Dwight McNeil,
and Iliman Ndiaye, as well as fellow right-back Seamus Coleman.
It’s terrible for the Red Devils. Eleven of their players are either uncertain or out for the journey down East Lancs
Road.
The most likely to return are midfielders Christian Eriksen and Manuel Ugarte, as well as defender Leny Yoro.
Youngster Toby Collyer might also get a chance to return.
However, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, midfielders Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, striker Amad Diallo, defenders
Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Jonny Evans are all out.
