Derby County ‘swooping’ to recruit former Huddersfield Town and Norwich City man

Derby County are moving to recruit Huddersfield Town goalkeeping coach Paul Clements, according to a report.

Clements spent six years with Huddersfield, serving with several head coaches between 2017 and 2023.

He worked with David Wagner, and the two eventually reconnected at Norwich City. Clements most recently worked with Stoke City, under former Terriers coach Narcis Pelach.

According to reporter Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Clements is expected to join Derby County following the appointment of John Eustace.
He appears to be in line to replace former Rotherham United mainstay Andy Warrington, who previously played for Paul Warne at Pride Park.
He continued in place following Warne’s firing as part of the interim management team, but resigned earlier this week alongside Matt Hamshaw.

Derby said in a statement: “Hamshaw and Warrington were given the opportunity to continue in the coaching set-up under new head coach John Eustace, but the club fully respects their decisions.

“The club would like to wish both Matt and Andy every success in the future and place on record its thanks for their efforts following their arrivals in September 2022.”

Paul Clements worked with Narcis Pelach at Stoke City.

Eustace faces a daunting challenge as Rams manager, with the team fighting for Championship survival.

He took leadership of the club for the first time over the weekend, but his side was thrashed by Queens Park Rangers.
