Tesco to open eighth store in Nottingham city centre

Tesco to open eighth store in Nottingham city centre

The eighth Tesco Express store to open in the city core will be a new location in Nottingham.

The food retailer’s planning proposal was accepted by Nottingham City Council on Monday, January 20.

On Lower Parliament Street, across from the Motorpoint Arena in Bolero Square, on the eastern corner of Nottingham’s Lace Market,

the new store will be located on the ground floor of the student housing complex IQ Nelson Court.

In 2019, IQ Nelson Court’s ground floor commercial unit was first approved for use as an exhibition space and café bar.

Later, the space was constructed as a restaurant and bar, although it was unoccupied.

Tesco submitted an application in November 2024 for the existing unit to be used as a retail convenience store.

A document that was presented on January 3 said that the store would be open every day of the week from 6 a.m. to midnight. The

store’s actual opening date and the number of jobs that will be advertised are unknown.

In the heart of Nottingham, the new store will be Tesco’s eighth Express location.

Upper Parliament Street, Shakespeare Street, Angel Row, Maid Marian Way, Bottle Lane, Station Street, and the Victoria Centre are

among the seven existing locations.

Up to January 31, the council can receive written representations regarding the application.

A request for comment has been made to Tesco.
