Southampton owner Dragan Solak is now considering major double sacking
According to a recent report, Southampton manager Russell Martin is under increasing pressure, and his future may depend on the outcome of the forthcoming international break.
Russell Martin under pressure at Southampton
After losing to AFC Bournemouth 3-1 in their most recent game, the Saints are still searching for their first Premier League victory under Martin. Martin was “hurt by the lack of spirit and fight shown by his team” during the match, which followed Southampton’s 1-0 loss to Ipswich Town at home in the closing seconds.
These outcomes have put Martin under a lot of strain, to the point where it was alleged last week that the Saints were keeping an eye on Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom.
According to reports, the Southampton management is interested in Corberan, but Leeds United is a rival team that is also interested in the Spaniard.
Corberan, who has guided the Baggies to 16 points from the first eight games of the Championship season, is said to have a £2 million release clause in his contract, and his possession-based style of play has got Southampton keeping an eye on him.
However, as things stand, Martin remains in the Southampton hotseat, but that could potentially change depending on how they fare in their next league game before the international break.
Solak’s opinion on Martin’s future revealed
TBR Football claims that Southampton is thinking about replacing manager Russell Martin and may be prepared to make a move during the next international break. Dragan Solak, the club’s main owner, has a “major ambition” for Southampton to establish themselves in the Premier League, according to the source, but he has been left “reeling” from the beginning of the season.
Martin is most immediately in danger of losing his job during the international break if there isn’t a miraculous outcome against Arsenal, but Solak may fire both important players in the upcoming weeks. Sporting director Rasmus Ankersen is also under pressure.

Lost | 18 |
Martin has previously managed Swansea City in the Championship and MK Dons in League One, but this is his first time in the Premier League. With an average of 1.46 points per game, the 38-year-old has played in more than 200 games in England, winning 99, drawing 55, and losing 87. However, Southampton’s record is declining as they are unable to secure victories.
Saints return to play this Saturday in an attempt to make amends for Monday’s lacklustre performance against Bournemouth, but Martin’s team’s trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on the Gunners, who have just swept PSG away with relative ease, won’t get any easier.
