Ronnie Edwards admits to ‘doubts’ over Southampton move

DEFENDER Ronnie Edwards admitted he had doubts about his move to Saints but is delighted to be “on the up again” thanks to his QPR loan switch.

Edwards, 21, has quickly become a fan favourite at Loftus Road since joining the London club until the end of the season in January.

The England youth international dropped into the Championship in search of more minutes after a difficult start to life at Southampton.

Edwards was limited to two appearances for Saints – one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League – following a summer move from League One Peterborough.

“At times you are going to question yourself, have doubts about yourself but I came to the reality that I am here for a reason,” Edwards told talkSPORT.

“It might not be my time at the minute but it’s a journey at the end of the day. It’s not all going to be upwards. I’ve taken a blip and now I’m on the up again.

“It is just part of football and you’ve got to ride with it. (The manager here) has trusted me and given me the opportunity to play.

“I’m loving it. I’m loving the club. I think the main thing is that I’m playing and that is what the gaffer is doing.”

Edwards was on the scoresheet last time out for QPR in a 4-0 thrashing of Championship relegation candidates Derby County.

It marked his first goal for Marti Cifuentes’ side and his first in the second tier, having played 34 Championship games for the Posh in 2021/22.

“I think I could have got one a few weeks back,” Edwards told QPR TV. “I was buzzing to get on the scoresheet tonight. A lot of my family were there so it was nice ”
