Reading FC restrict purchases for Birmingham City clash

The heavily-spending Blues will continue to have the support of a sold-out away crowd of 3,000 fans as they lead the division by nine points.

The club is worried about the possibility that many more people would purchase tickets elsewhere in the SCL Stadium, which could raise safety issues.

Anyone buying tickets may have brought tickets to previous games, as they have done with other high-profile fixtures in recent years, most notably with teams like Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers.

This is an effort to prevent Blues fans from opening Royals accounts and buying tickets in the lead-up to Saturday’s game.

“With immediate effect, Royals fans will only be able to purchase tickets if their Royals Account has a previous purchase history with either 25+ Loyalty Points or a Legacy Status,” the team announced. “The move is designed to prevent the possibility of visiting fans purchasing tickets in the home sections and in turn ensure the safety of supporters, and will remain in place on matchday.”

The game will begin at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday and will be televised live on Sky Sports.

Nearly 2,000 Royals supporters traveled to freshly relegated Birmingham for the season’s first game, and they returned home with a point.

Ruben Selles’ team played well, although they were a little disappointed not to have won since they were refused a late penalty.
