Marcelo Bielsa claim emerges after late Leeds United win v Sunderland
In a daring statement following Leeds United’s 2-1 victory over Sunderland, Andy Hinchcliffe likened the current team to Marcelo Bielsa’s.
With Sunderland holding strong following Wilson Isidor’s opening goal, it appeared improbable that the Whites would win anything at Elland Road on Monday.
Late in the game, though, substitutes Joe Rothwell and Pascal Struijk combined twice to give the Whites all three points and put them back atop the Championship standings.
Andy Hinchcliffe has no doubts about Daniel Farke’s Leeds United
This season, Daniel Farke’s team appears unbeatable and has maintained a high level of performance throughout.
But against Sunderland, it appeared as though the Whites might lose until late goals gave them another decisive victory at Elland Road.
As a result, United regained their position at the top of the Championship standings, two points ahead of Sheffield United.
Hinchcliffe likened it to Bielsa in an interview with Sky Sports News on February 18, stating: “This is the best Leeds team I have seen in the Championship.” I saw the Bielsa side, the side from the previous season.
“This team is just strong from back to front. Question marks against Meslier, he made a couple of good saves last night. But, apart from that, defend well, highest scorers in the four English divisions.
“They’ve got absolutely everything. They’ve got character, individually very good, collectively very good so strong.”
Daniel Farke is running the show with Leeds United this term
To say that his team is superior to the one that returned to the Premier League first is a hefty claim, considering how much Bielsa is still regarded at Elland Road.
It is difficult to dispute Hinchcliffe’s arguments, though, and the Leeds team is undoubtedly deserving of this season.
Although there may be doubts about Meslier’s skill, Farke has assembled a team that is formidable from the back to the front of the field and is a well-oiled machine in every position.
Farke has had to cope with significant player departures during the summer and is still doing well, but Bielsa should get more credit for improving the players he had.
The West Yorkshire team has no time to get ahead of themselves at this point since they have a big game against Sheffield United on Monday, February 24.
But, if they defeat the Blades, there will undoubtedly be a lot of talk about winning the Championship, demonstrating how talented this Leeds team is.
