Exclusive: Hearts explain Yan Dhanda’s absence and Cammy Devlin’s training protocol ahead of St Johnstone trip.
The Riccarton staff will not rush either player back. Cammy Devlin is expected to be fit and available for Hearts’ Premiership match against St Johnstone on Sunday. The Australian midfielder is currently going through the concussion protocol following a head injury, but he should be back in full training later this week. Devlin will miss the league game against Rangers at Tynecastle Park on Sunday due to a head injury sustained against St Mirren in last week’s Scottish Cup fifth-round clash. He is now hoping to return for this weekend’s trip to Perth, as Hearts continue their quest for a top-six finish.
“Cammy has been one of our top performers and he has been integral to how we want to play. We feed off of his energy on the pitch because of how he plays the game and so do the supporters. He has been a huge influence so you are going to miss somebody like that. I have to say the players who played against Rangers did themselves no harm at all, including the players who came off the bench, so Cammy has got a fight to get back in the team now.”
Yan Dhanda has been ruled out of the St Johnstone match. He missed the St Mirren and Rangers games owing to a hip issue, and Hearts’ coaching staff wants the midfielder to rest until the pain subsides. “I don’t think Yan will make Sunday,” Critchley stated. “His hip flexor is affecting him a little, so we’re giving it some time to calm down. It’s not that serious. It will not keep him out for an extended period of time. We just need to manage it so he doesn’t come back and make things worse.”
