“Deal there to be had” as Aston Villa target “world-class” £62.5m striker
According to trustworthy writer Ben Jacobs, Aston Villa is pursuing a “world-class” striker who is also wanted by Arsenal, and a deal is “there to be had” in this situation.
Jhon Duran joined Al-Nassr towards the conclusion of the January transfer window, leaving Unai Emery without a reliable striker to challenge Ollie Watkins for the starting position. As a result, the manager is now considering summer acquisitions.
With the Senegalese striker expected to take Duran’s spot, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson has suddenly become a target for the Villans. Emery is familiar with Jackson from their time together at Villarreal.
One of the most recent players to be linked to a move to Villa Park is Mateo Retegui, an Atalanta striker who is expected to fetch a £50 million summer transfer fee following an outstanding Serie A campaign that has also caught Arsenal’s eye.
However, Jacobs recently provided an update regarding Arsenal and Villa’s interest in Matheus Cunha of Wolverhampton Wanderers, so Retegui is not the only striker they may have to fight for.
“I think suitors that are looking at Cunha – whether it’s Arsenal or Aston Villa or others – will feel that regardless of Wolves going down or staying up, there’s a deal there to be had in the summer,” the trustworthy reporter stated in an interview with GiveMeSport.
And it might not always be by directly invoking the release clause. They might be able to negotiate a marginally better deal by negotiating around its ballpark.
Aston Villa’s upcoming Premier League fixtures | Date |
Liverpool (h) | February 19th |
Chelsea (h) | February 22nd |
Crystal Palace (a) | February 25th |
Brentford (a) | March 8th |

Cunha has undoubtedly been Wolves’ best player this season; with 12 goals in 24 Premier League games and four assists, he has given the Molineux team a realistic opportunity to avoid relegation.
The 25-year-old most recently beat Alisson from outside the area to score a spectacular goal in the Old Gold’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
