Aston Villa youngster aiming to ‘put one over’ rivals

25-year-old Knibbs is the Royals’ top scorer this season, netting both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Rotherham United.

The big-spending Blues, who lead the division by nine points and are serious contenders to surpass the Royals’ EFL season-ending record of 106 points, are the next team to aim for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the season.

The league leaders’ visit is usually a significant day on the calendar for any football players, and Knibbs is no exception.

Though he turned professional in 2016 after four years at Villa Park without making a debut in the first team, his affiliation with Second City rivals Aston Villa has only strengthened his resolve to win the midday kickoff.

“We practice the same way for each game. It’s all about us and the level we bring because we believe we can defeat anyone in this stadium. I believe that if we give it our all, we can benefit everyone.

“With the Villa link, I think it’s a significant game. It would be enormous to put one over them.
