Life ban for ex-football manager who hit linesman
A former football manager who punched a linesman during a game was fined and banned for life.
Last month, 43-year-old Robert Williams-Jones of Llaneilian, close to Amlwch, Anglesey, was given a 24-week prison sentence with a one-year suspension.
The attack happened in April 2024 when Penrhyndeudraeth FC defeated Amlwch Town FC, the team Williams-Jones was managing, 8-0.
In addition to a £3,000 punishment and £50 in costs, Williams-Jones has been suspended from the game for life by the North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) disciplinary panel.
He had entered a guilty plea to assault causing real bodily harm at the East Coast Premier League game in North Wales.
He was ordered to perform 150 hours of unpaid labor and make a £1,000 payment.
Amlwch Town FC apologized to Penrhyndeudraeth and the linesman shortly after the game and said that it has severed its relationship with Williams-Jones.
Additionally, Amlwch Town was fined £2,500, of which £2,000 was suspended for a year.
The organization stated that it was “truly saddened by this incident and would again apologise unreservedly to Penrhyndeudraeth and all affected.”
“We accept the ruling and will now move forward as a club,” said the statement.
“Aggression and assault in football have no place in this area association,” the NWCFA disciplinary tribunal declared. The NWCFA will keep up its strong response to any misuse cases.
“The NWCFA will not be making any further comment.”
