Taxi driver arrested after ploughing into ‘Welcome to Bolton’ sign

A taxi driver has been detained on suspicion of drunk driving after reportedly colliding with a ‘Welcome to Bolton’ sign.

Police claim the Uber driver was driving customers home after a night out on Valentine’s Day when they crashed over the road barrier and into the sign.

According to Greater Manchester Police Traffic, the motorist was apprehended at the scene for exceeding the speed limit by twice.

The force commented on X: “You’ve had a great night out, book a Taxi, expect a safe ride home, when a pesky fixed road sign jumps out on the Taxi causing a crash!”@gmptraffic responded to the situation and detained the taxi driver for exceeding the speed limit on the roadside! Totally Uber-believable!”

There were no major injuries recorded, and authorities did not give any other information about the event.

Officers have advised anybody with concerns about the roads or anywhere to phone 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency. Witnesses can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
