Aston Villa are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing two Middlesbrough players.

Aston Villa are apparently interested in two Middlesbrough youngsters, but they will face competition from a number of other Premier League clubs.

Twins Bailey Palmer and Anton Palmer, both Boro junior academy midfielders, have emerged as promising young players in England’s under-17 side. Anton has appeared more frequently this season, with two assists in ten under-18 Premier League games, while Bailey has two goals and one assist in five games in the same competition.

Neither brother has played for the first team yet, but it’s only a matter of time before opportunities arise, as they’re both highly regarded at the Riverside Stadium. Anton is barely preferred in England’s under-17 setup, having made four appearances, whereas Bailey has been in the squad but has yet to play a competitive match.

Michael Carrick has been tempted to give Bailey a debut after he has appeared on the first-team bench three times – against West Bromwich Albion, Preston North End, and Blackburn Rovers. Anton is still waiting for that experience, but he will undoubtedly follow his brother in accomplishing such a milestone before making their senior football debut. They’re only 16 years old, so there’s plenty of time to make it a reality.

That is, unless the Palmer brothers get caught up in the transfer market.According to TBR Football, Villa and other Premier League clubs are interested in signing the Palmer twins from Middlesbrough to join their famed academy, following in Morgan Rogers’ footsteps.

Even if the midfield tandem choose to leave Boro, Villa must still convince them that they are the appropriate match. According to TBR Football, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brighton & Hove Albion are all interested in both players, indicating that competition will be severe in the next summer.

Aston Villa already have strong Middlesbrough relations

Villa and Middlesbrough have already established a good connection, having worked together to achieve multiple transactions in recent transfer windows. The most notable was Rogers’ transfer from Boro to Villa in January 2024 for £8 million + £7 million in add-ons, but other deals have been completed in previous years.

Samuel Iling-Junior left Villa just a few weeks ago to join Boro on a straight loan until the end of the season. The winger, who joined from Juventus in the summer as part of the Douglas Luiz transfer, has made three appearances in the Championship thus far.

Meanwhile, Cameron Archer spent the second half of the 2022/23 season at the Riverside, where he scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 20 Championship games. In 2016, Villa paid £3 million for Albert Adomah, who had previously played for Boro.
