Huddersfield Town eye swoop for Championship man

Huddersfield Town have set their eyes on signing Blackburn Rovers youngster Jackson Shorrocks, who was granted permission to leave the Championship club.

The Terriers are presently locked in a struggle to finish in the top six of League One this season, but they look to have their sights set on next season and the future of their younger ‘B’ squad.

According to writer Alan Nixon, Huddersfield Town are preparing to examine at Blackburn Rovers U18s prodigy Jackson Shorrocks ahead of a possible transfer to the League One club.

The article indicates that Huddersfield will ‘get first look’, but this does not mean that they are the only team keeping an eye on the youngster’s future.

Who is Jackson Shorrocks?

Shorrocks is a center midfielder who plays regularly for Blackburn Rovers’ U18s in the U18s Premier League this season, scoring once in 11 appearances.
He’s also played once in the FA Youth Cup this season, captaining the side in a 3-2 loss to Sheffield United in December.

Shorrocks has played in a variety of positions for Blackburn Rovers this season, although his most noteworthy position has been center midfield, where he has scored once.

Would Huddersfield be a good move?

Unlike most other EFL clubs, Huddersfield Town has a ‘B’ team system (similar to Premier League side Brentford), rather than a regular academy structure for U21s.

The Terriers have produced several players who have gone on to play in the English Football League, the National League, and Scotland.

Recent examples of players who have found success in the ‘B’ team system include Halifax Town loanee Scott High and Newport County loanee Kyle Hudlin.

This move would present Shorrocks with a unique development path that may pique his interest. It is also conceivable that he will have a higher chance of obtaining a first-team loan transfer in the future, making him a better player sooner.
