B B C Sports: Simms sums up Coventry’s tenacity.

Sheffield Wednesday’s shot count was high, but so was Coventry’s determination and endurance as they won for the sixth time in seven Championship games.

Reviews of the goal that won the game in extra time will highlight Wednesday’s England Under-21 goalkeeper James Beadle’s error, but what of Ellis Simms’ mental fortitude in chasing down the most hopeful of long punt attempts? Even though Coventry spent much of Saturday’s game defending their box – and doing so brilliantly – Simms was always on the periphery, providing optimism for Sky Blues fans who must have feared the worst when Wednesday equalised. Perhaps it’s no accident that all but one of Simms’ goals this season have been away from home. He’s potentially the type of striker needed in an away game: few touches, but alert when the opportunity arises. He was not willing to settle for a draw. He certainly wasn’t going to miss the chance presented to him by Beadle.

Simms succinctly up Coventry’s tenacity in a game where the balance of play was not on their side. In the first half, his team took the lead thanks to a spectacular header. He was unlucky to have another disallowed, but Coventry appreciated his desire to chase down that late kick. If Coventry were to reach the play-offs, such industry from guys like Simms will be required.
