Alan Nixon reports that Blackburn Rovers would need to spend £250,000 to hire Richie Wellens from Leyton Orient as their new manager.
Blackburn Rovers are looking for a new manager after John Eustace left to join Championship rivals Derby County.
Since then, first-team coach David Lowe has witnessed two victories in charge of the interim management group. The Ewood Park fixture has kept the play-off campaign running smoothly while a permanent manager is sought.

Several names have been associated with the role early on, including Leyton Orient manager, Richie Wellens. He has gained the attention of the O’s, taking them into the League One play-offs while also enjoying a successful FA Cup run.
After initial rumours of interest in Wellens, reporter Alan Nixon has stated on his Patreon that Leyton Orient will demand £250,000 from Blackburn Rovers or anyone else who wants to take the manager off their hands.
The 44-year-old is clearly on Rovers’ wish list, but an appointment will be costly.
Nixon adds that the Championship side will meet with applicants in the next week. Gary O’Neil is among those on the shortlist, along with a handful of international candidates.
The search for Eustace’s replacement
Blackburn Rovers may delay appointing Eustace’s replacement due to the importance of the upcoming appointment. If Lowe can maintain the team performing well, they could be more ready to take their time.
The hierarchy should set their sights high. Rovers have had their challenges, and off-field issues appear to pop up on a regular basis, but they are currently fifth in the Championship standings and definitely in contention for the play-offs.

Whether they overachieve or not, this is a position they should take advantage of. Appointing a CEO who can keep them there is critical, and time will tell whether they believe Wellens is capable of doing so.
Will Blackburn Rovers pay?
Venky’s, the proprietors of Blackburn Rovers, are known for tight budgets. They have made big moves for players, of course, but given some of the riches made on former stars, they are far from a free-spending club.
As a result, they may be turned off by the prospect of paying £250,000 for a manager who has never managed in the Championship.
Out-of-work choices, such as the previously mentioned Gary O’Neil, may be preferable. Nonetheless, they appear to be casting a broad net, with international candidates being considered in the quest for Eustace’s heir.
