Sunderland stance on Pierre Ekwah’s future at the Stadium of Light revealed

The midfield player left the Stadium of Light last summer to spend the season on loan at Saint-Étienne in France.

Given how crucial the player had been in the previous campaign, his departure was unexpected once Régis Le Bris was named the new head coach.

The 23-year-old, who played 40 times in the Championship with Sunderland the previous season, has made 17 appearances in Ligue 1.

Regardless of Sunderland’s league standing for the following season, journalist Graeme Bailey has asserted that Ekwah is not included in the team’s plans for the first team.

Regardless of the division they will soon be playing in, the midfield player will not return to Le Bris’ team, which is in the running for automatic promotion.

“From what I’ve been told, I don’t really think they see him as part of the future,” Bailey stated, as reported by Sunderland AFC News.

Ekwah has previously mentioned the possibility of a longer-term stay at the French club.
