PREMIER League-winning goalkeeper Joe Hart hailed Aaron Ramdale’s “excellent” performance against AFC Bournemouth despite Saints suffering a 3-1 defeat.
Despite conceding three goals against his former club for the second time this season, Ramsdale produced two acrobatic saves to stop the Cherries from scoring more.
He required quick reactions to claw Kyle Walker-Peters’ looping backwards header over the crossbar, preventing the defender from scoring a comical own goal.
His best save denied goalscorer Ryan Christie from scoring his second. The Scottish midfielder’s header was saved right as it looked like nestling in the top corner.
Goal line technology was required to verify that Ramsdale had saved Christie’s effort with the graphic later highlighting the quality of Ramsdale’s save.
Former
England keeper Hart, who won the Premier League twice with Manchester City before playing alongside Christie at Celtic, praised Ramsdale’s save.
He said: “I know Ryan (Christie) and he is not someone who heads the ball but this would have been a brilliant goal.
“That is a superb save by Aaron Ramsdale. Credit to him by the way today, in a 3-1 defeat, he was absolutely excellent.”
Ramsdale joined Southampton in the summer with the hope of helping the south coast team avoid relegation to the Championship.
