Woman died in head-on crash with lorry on major A-road

A woman died following a head-on crash with a lorry on a major Wiltshire A-road, a coroner concluded.

Angela Isabel Campos Dos Santos, 56, died in a major crash on the A350 in Chippenham, between the Chequers and Lackham Roundabouts, shortly before 5 p.m. on December 1, 2023.

Following an inquest on Monday, February 10, Area Coroner Ian Singleton determined that Angela’s death was the result of a road traffic collision.

The inquest heard that Angela’s automobile drifted onto the wrong side of the road twice for unclear reasons, the second time colliding with an oncoming lorry.

Angela died at the scene of the accident as a result of her injuries.

The coroner concluded that Angela Isabel Campos Dos Santos was driving alone south on the A350 West Cepen Way Chippenham, Wiltshire, which had a single carriageway in either direction.

“For reasons that are unexplained from the evidence, Angela’s vehicle was seen to move into the offside carriageway before returning to the correct side of the road.

“Angela’s car then moved abruptly into the opposite carriageway directly into the path of an oncoming lorry, resulting in a collision causing the injuries that led to Angela’s death at the scene.”
