These stunning image capture a year in the life of Leeds city center toward the close of the 1930s.

This fantastic gallery focuses on the center of Leeds in 1937 and features Wellington Street, New Briggate, Eastgate, and more.

Because of the Salvation Army Hostel, which has a long history of serving the city’s homeless population, charity is the main focus.

The photographs were made available by Leeds Library & Information Service’s photography archive, Leodis.

A behind-the-scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books tucked away in the stacks, may be seen on their historical blog, The Secret Library Leeds.
