The Premiership resumes this weekend following an action-packed Scottish Cup weekend.

Since their cup departure, the Ibrox inner circle has said nothing regarding Philippe Clement’s situation, and as a result, rumor and fan rage have blossomed.

Rangers’ trip to Tynecastle on Sunday is highly anticipated, as is Aberdeen’s game against Dundee, with Jimmy Thelin also feeling the heat.

There are calmer waters at Celtic, but the biggest game of the season looms ahead.

Here are some things to watch out for this weekend…

Game of the weekend: Hearts against Rangers

Clement may be shocked that he is still in charge at Ibrox following the humiliating Scottish Cup elimination against Queen’s Park.

With the Rangers unable to build a championship threat, the setback to the Spiders has increased the pressure on the Belgian.

The Rangers’ management has remained tight-lipped all week, which is a sign of support. However, Clement will be well aware that a terrible performance at Tynecastle will push him closer to a departure.

Neil Critchley may have fancied his team’s prospects of a morale-boosting victory six weeks ago, but since taking the time to examine the roster, Heart of Midlothian has progressively improved.

They have won four of their five league games in 2025, with one draw, equaling the number of victories they had in their last 22 matches of 2024.

Cammy Devlin has been instrumental in their revival. In 2025, he leads the Premiership in tackles (23) and interceptions (co-top).

To attack Hearts’ defence, you must first get past the Australian defensive midfielder. His availability following a concussion at St Mirren on Monday might be crucial in this encounter.

The loan arrival of Belgian striker Elton Kabangu appears to have freed Lawrence Shankland as well, and the Jambos shown the kind of tenacity that was sorely lacking earlier in the season as they squeezed past the Buddies in the Scottish Cup.

Despite the shadow hanging over Clement, Rangers have won their last four league games, all by at least two goals. It is the Rangers’ longest streak of league wins by more than one goal since April 2023.

Clement also has history on his side, as Hearts have gone winless in their last 17 encounters with Rangers in all competitions, including 13 losses.

Rangers’ lone defeat in the previous 26 league meetings against Hearts was a 2-1 loss in January 2020, under Steven Gerrard.

That record means Rangers and its fans have grown accustomed to winning against Hearts, and anything less than another victory in Gorgie may signal the end for Clement.

MOTD analysis: Maeda performance gives Celtic ‘hope’

Player to watch: Daizen Maeda (Celtic).

This weekend’s Premiership leaders face third-placed Dundee United at Celtic Park, which is a far cry from their most easiest game of the season.

However, the Tangerines have only won one of their five league games, while Celtic lead by 13 points.

So, while Brendan Rodgers will be focused on beating Jim Goodwin’s side, he will undoubtedly have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich, where they must overcome a 2-1 deficit.

Could this imply a start for Jota on Saturday, giving the Portuguese winger vital minutes as he looks to improve his sharpness?

He has naturally been out of form since returning to Glasgow after playing little football in the previous 18 months, but Celtic looked a more efficient team when he came on against Bayern in the first leg.

Perhaps more importantly, his inclusion allowed Daizen Maeda to move more centrally, and his tormenting of Bayern’s defenders resulted in more long balls under pressure.

Might Rodgers be tempted to start Jota against United to boost his fitness ahead of Tuesday’s huge game?

If he accomplishes that, would playing alongside Maeda as the center striker assist their understanding, or will Adam Idah stay as the number nine to give the hardworking Japanese attacker a break before the crucial encounter in Germany?

Highlights: Aberdeen 3-0 Dunfermline Athletic

Manager in the spotlight: Jimmy Thelin (Aberdeen)

When a new Aberdeen manager arrives at Pittodrie, they are surrounded by Sir Alex Ferguson’s intimidating aura.

It normally only takes a game or two for supporters and the outside world to realize that the new man is not going to be the next ‘Fergie’.

Thelin then made his appearance.

The Dons had pursued the Swede for a long time before obtaining him, and it quickly became evident why they had been so patient. against the start of the season, they won ten of their first eleven Premiership games, and a dramatic draw against Celtic sparked thoughts of a championship push.

Thelin had transformed roughly the same group that defeated Neil Warnock in eight games into one that appeared prepared to push Celtic into the new year.

His stock skyrocketed, and rumors circulated tying him to ambitious Birmingham City.

However, while his stock surged swiftly, it has now fallen even faster. Aberdeen have lost eight and drawn one of their last nine league games, which is the same number of defeats as in their previous 37.

They have risen from second to fourth place, barely five points clear of ninth. Despite being dubbed Fergie 2.0 only two months ago, Thelin is facing major employment pressure.

His tactics and style of play have been criticized, with some suggesting that rival teams have figured him out.

The good news for him is that the Dons face Dundee next.

Aberdeen’s last league win came against Dundee three months ago, while their last away league win was against Dundee nearly five months ago.

Tony Docherty’s squad has surrendered more goals (53) and had a higher projected goals against total (46.1) than any other Premiership team this season.

They have only won two of their last 30 league encounters with Aberdeen, while Saturday’s visitors have won both of their league meetings with Dundee this season.

Oh, and Dundee have been blasted 6-0 in their previous two games, becoming the first team to lose twice by six goals in a season since Motherwell in 2015-16.

Aberdeen ended the rot with a cup victory last weekend, but Thelin, like Clement, is expected to win this game.

He will be aware that if he does not, he will have tough matches against former Dons manager Derek McInnes’ current club Kilmarnock, Celtic, and third-placed Dundee United.
