Jamie Vardy made feelings on his future clear as Manchester United speculation now surrounds Leicester ace

Jamie Vardy, a forward for Leicester City, is currently scheduled to become a free agent this summer.

One of the greatest acquisitions of the century, Jamie Vardy was acquired by the Foxes from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1 million.

When Leicester City was promoted from the Championship in 2013–14, Vardy experienced victory for the first time at the King Power Stadium.

The striker and his teammates stunned everyone by winning the Premier League title after a relegation struggle in 2014–15.

He went on to win the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and another Championship promotion the previous season.

Vardy has helped Leicester score 69 goals and assist on a whopping 198 goals throughout all competitions.

But now there’s conjecture.

What Jamie Vardy has said about his future as Manchester United speculation arises

Amid their poor financial situation, it was suggested this week that Vardy could be an option for Manchester United in the summer.

The Englishman will be a free agent at the end of June because he is nearing the end of his Leicester deal.

Despite Vardy’s advanced age, the majority of Manchester United supporters appeared receptive to the possibility of a trade in response to the rumours.

Even though Vardy will reach 39 next year, it appears he is eager to continue playing, thus Leicester supporters were likely less than delighted by the prospect of losing a club star.

Speaking late in 2024, as per Leicestershire Live, the number nine expressed his desire to not retire and while it will happen, he suggested it won’t be anytime soon.

He said: “I wish I couldn’t retire. Unfortunately it will happen one day. Just not yet.”

How Jamie Vardy compares to Manchester United strikers in Premier League

A team with the profile of Manchester United signing a player who, at the very most, seems to have one or two more years left of his career would be pretty odd.

However, if the reports are true that they are struggling financially, it’s easy to see why the Red Devils could be looking at the free-agent market to replace their current striker options.

Big money was paid out for both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but neither forward has lived up to expectations this season.

Stats Jamie Vardy Rasmus Hojlund Joshua Zirkzee
Appearances 22 19 24
Goals 7 2 3
Assists 3 0 1

Whatever happens in the final few months of this season though, it’s clear Leicester should be offering the club icon fresh terms.
