Firefighters remain at scene of Cobrey Farms blaze

FIREFIGHTERS are still at the scene of a fire in Ross-on-Wye, which involved six fire engines.

Around 8 p.m. on February 13, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call at Cobrey Farms in Coughton, near Ross-on-Wye.
According to the fire service, no one was injured in the fire. The fire, which was observed escaping from the roof of a structure near polytunnels, has been extinguished, but “dampening down” continues.

According to the fire service, the fire involved a single-story building of approximately 20m by 20m that had farm machinery and wooden shipping pallets that were “well alight”.

A spokesperson stated, “Further nearby potato crates were also well alight.” The issue was sectored and battled with three hose reel jets and one compressed air foam system jet, with water supplied from a nearby stream and a water relay dam.

Four Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews, a water carrier from Peterchurch, an incident command unit from Ledbury, and an environmental protection unit from Tenbury Wells were on the site, assisted by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Cinderford and Newent.

The Chinn Family owns Cobrey Farm, which supplies asparagus to Marks and Spencer.
