Everton tries to have last laugh with Virgil van Dijk dig after dramatic draw with Liverpool

After Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, Everton appeared to make fun of Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk on social media.

The remarks made by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk after this week’s Merseyside derby appeared to be a playful jab at Everton.

James Tarkowski’s equalizer in the 98th minute caused chaos at Goodison Park, where the legendary rivalry was played for the final time before Everton moved to a new stadium for the upcoming campaign.

Fans flocked to the field in excitement after Tarkowski made it 2-2, which resulted in a serious altercation between players from both teams by the visitors’ section.

Referee Michael Oliver gave Liverpool manager Arne Slot one of four red cards following the game. With six games left at Goodison before the Premier League season ends, Everton posted a video of fans chanting, along with the comment, “Six more ‘finals’ left at Goodison,” and two emojis: a sad face and a smirk.

Van Dijk’s comments to TNT Sports following the match, in which he stated: “This is their cup final and they would try to do everything in their power to make it difficult for us,” appeared to be the subject of the tweet.

They benefit greatly from it, but we suffer a setback. Reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter, including “Hahaha, excellent admin,” and “Admin killing it again! Give that man more money.

Liverpool supporters made fun of Everton before the game, reminding them of their lack of trophies since winning the FA Cup in 1995. “At least an empty cabinet is easier to move,” one poster said. Reds fans also carried balloons when they crossed Stanley Park.

Now, though, Everton will not be deterred by the taunts as they celebrate a memorable evening at their legendary home field. It was “a special, special night and what a way to finish the last derby here,” Tarkowski thought. “It will likely be the most significant event in my life and a memorable one for the remainder of my career.

A five-year-old child pulled me to the ground when an 80-year-old guy grabbed me. Stewards were present everywhere. It was chaos, but what a moment.

“I’ve had a few proud moments, like as getting promoted and representing my nation, but with everything that’s going on right now, I think that leaving this legendary stadium will be the biggest for me.
