‘Drives me mad’ – Bristol City boss reacts to Stoke City result

On Wednesday night, Bristol City overcame Stoke City 2-0 at Ashton Gate, putting his team back in the running for

the playoffs.

Anis Mehmeti’s double kept Bristol City in the middle of the Championship top six competition with a 2-0 victory

over Stoke, and Liam Manning lauded the winger’s commitment to developing his game.

The Albanian international opened the scoring with a tap-in from a cross by Mark Sykes in the eleventh minute. He

then added a brilliant volley from an angle in the seventieth minute that sent the ball tearing into the net’s roof.

Stoke offered little as an attacking threat and City head coach Manning was understandably delighted with the way

His side bounced back from Sunday’s home defeat by Swansea.

He said: “The players have shown their resilience in overcoming setbacks before this season and are a great group in

that respect.

There was frustration and disappointment after the Swansea game but they were honest in their assessment of why

we lost a match despite playing so well and the response tonight was great.

We’ve worked on it, but Anis Mehmeti’s play is likely a little more straightforward than he was. It pleases me to see

him free and occupying constructive roles.

As I keep reminding him, he may have scored even more goals this season. Sometimes he irritates me, and I irritate

him, but only because we both want the best for him.

Anis is a pleasure to work with since he is driven to get better and has aspirations of playing more international

football for Albania, which is possible given his present performance.

“I have said before that it is for the supporters to dream about the play-offs. I have told the players to enjoy this

victory for 24 hours and then it is on to preparing for the next game.”
