It’s our second away game of three games in a row tomorrow and it’s another comparatively short journey to Alfreton Town. One of the most looked forwards to trips of the season, or maybe not. Personally I think it’s the worst ground I’ve been to at this level but, strangely, some people like the place so there’s no accounting for some peoples taste.

On Tuesday evening we went up to Chester FC, another shortish trip, and returned with a point from a game that couldn’t be classed as the ‘Beautiful Game’ but more as a battle. Apart from the first fifteen minutes when Chester ran rings round us there wasn’t much pure football on offer but we slowly got into the game after they had gone one up. Poor defending at a corner allowed Harrison Burke all the time in the world to send his header home.

After that we tightened up and Ashley Hemmings drew us level mid way through the half and that’s how it stayed for the remainder of the game. Some desperate defending at times and too much hoof ball seeing us through.

We should be at full strength for the game with no new injuries reported from the Chester game and there’ll be no returns from the injury room either. One definitely missing as neither injured or not is Jack Lambert. After seeing Phil Browns preview video yesterday it seemed his time at Aggborough was coming to a close and today that was proved correct when he left us by mutual consent.

Hopefully his release will now provide funds for a decent marquee signing to push us back on track and back to the top of the table.

We now go on to a team that don’t play the beautiful game either and seem happy with one nil wins and a few broken bones for the opposition. Another reason to dislike them and going there.

Kobe Hall is on loan at Alfreton but won’t be allowed to turn out against us, his parent club. His time there so far has seen him getting very little game time with him usually coming on with ten minutes of the game left to play. Not really much good to us if we were hoping that he’d come back to us with some decent game time under his belt.

Without that marquee striker we’ll just have to accept that it’ll be another start for Amari Morgan-Smith although Phil did hint that he would like to rest him for a while so maybe we do have one coming in. Who knows?

Hopefully we’ll get a decent result at Alfreton and put an end to this disappointing run of results. A first win since the two nil home win against Warrington Town in mid January would be very welcome.
