City chief Thorup wary of ‘good player’ Kamara

Johannes Hoff Thorup knows his side are in for a tough test when they go up against Norwich City old boy Abu Kamara this weekend.

The 21-year-old left Carrow Road for Hull last summer, submitting a transfer request after progressing through the Canaries’ system and completing a £5 million transfer deadline day deal.

He will play his previous club for the second time since his move to Humberside, having appeared as a substitute in the Tigers’ 4-0 loss in Norfolk four months prior.
Thorup, Norwich’s head coach, is apprehensive of Kamara’s abilities heading into the game, especially since he has become a regular in Hull’s starting lineup.
“I think he’s a good player, and I think the plan for us was to keep him here back in the summer,” stated the Danish man. “But, of course, he wanted to go on, and you have to listen to that when you can’t reach an agreement.

“I think he is a good player. I think he’s an excellent dribbler; his left foot is strong, and he has good vision for his teammates up front. So, don’t get me wrong: I believe everyone prayed for him to succeed.”

Although the circumstances surrounding the winger’s departure were upsetting for City, Thorup reiterated that everyone who worked with him wanted to see him reach his full potential at the MKM Stadium.

He is hoping for an off day from Kamara this time around, having seen what he can do in prior games.

“He should probably hold off scoring too many goals on Saturday; we don’t need it! But all of us hope he succeeds in the league,” said the City manager.

“He’s a good player and a kind guy, so it’s a tribute to him that he’s on the squad now. It appears like he is taking the necessary steps as a young athlete to join a championship squad.
