Tributes paid to Saints fan who died after cancer battle

A lifelong Saints supporter who was the “life and soul of the party” who passed away following a fight with cancer has received tributes.

Ian Still, a 52-year-old chauffeur driver and lifelong Saints supporter, lost his fight with skin cancer three years ago on February 3.

Jamie Cawte, a 15-year buddy, claimed that he, Ian, and four other pals used to attend Saints games together, but that now there is a “massive hole” in the group.

“We will all miss Ian terribly, and going to Saints games won’t be the same,” he continued.

“Ian was from also Shirley and he gained the nick name ‘curly from Shirley’ due to his curly brown hair.

“He was the absolute soul of the party – everyone who knew Ian loved him for being such a larger-than-life character.

“He is also leaving behind his amazing wife of more than 20 years, Jo – I know she was his absolute rock.”

A tribute is being paid to Ian in the 52nd minute of Saints’ match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Fans are being asked to take part in the one minute applause for Ian – who was a season ticket holder and dedicated Saints all his life.

He never complained and continued to live life to the fullest despite receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Before the game, Ian’s family and friends will get together at Shenanigans to honour his life and have a drink.

Fans’ support has been tremendous, as evidenced by the large number of social media shares we have received.

“I know how excited Ian would be to learn that Matt Le Tissier and Adam Blackmore even shared our post.”

Ian has also received condolences from other pals on Facebook. “It’s unbelievable that you’re no longer with us, my old friend,” one user commented. You were legendary.
