Slaying Spurs: How is Gabriel Sara getting on since leaving Norwich City?

Last summer, Norwich City was all but certain that they would lose Gabriel Sara since they were unable to get back into the Premier League, leaving them open to having the Brazilian playmaker taken away.

Throughout the 2023–24 Championship season, Sara had a great time and became one of the top operators in the division. With his incredible ball-striking ability from range and captivating flair in the final third, the 25-year-old scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists from midfield, frequently leading the Canaries’ attack.

It was impossible to dispute the merit of his eventual departure from Carrow Road; Sara had earned a chance at playing in the top division and was immediately granted one when he was acquired by Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray for £20 million.

Joining a team that has won the Super Lig a staggering 24 times and currently features internationally recognized players like Dries Mertens, Alvaro Morata, Mauro Icardi, and Victor Osimhen was a major move for Sara.

Sara has had minimal trouble adjusting to the demands of playing football in the top division in a fiercely competitive team. Even if he hasn’t produced as much in front of goal as he did at Norwich, he has been a mainstay in Okan Buruk’s team and has obviously left a lasting impression.

In all competitions, the midfield standout has made 29 appearances, including seven in the UEFA Europa League.

Naturally, Gala’s 3-2 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in November was the high point of their continental campaign and helped secure their eventual qualifying.

Sara has been outstanding for the majority of the campaign and put on a striking performance against Ange Postecoglou’s team that evening.

With two goals and five assists in his 19 league appearances—17 of which were starts—he has established a strong midfield connection with former Arsenal player Lucas Torreira.

Sara has been particularly effective in the major games. He set up both goals to lead his team to a 2-1 victory against Besiktas and scored the third goal in their 3-1 triumph over bitter rivals Fenerbache on the road.
