Following the full-time match between Everton and Liverpool, four red cards were shown, prompting a response
from the Premier League.
Chaos broke out at Goodison Park when James Tarkowski scored an equalizer in the 98th minute to save Everton a
point against Liverpool in the final Merseyside Derby.
Just seconds after the resumption, Everton supporters had gathered on the field to celebrate as the full-time whistle
was blown. When Curtis Jones objected to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s celebration in front of the Liverpool supporters, a
fight quickly broke out.
Michael Oliver was issued four red cards during the altercation and the complaints that followed, though it was
unclear at the time who was to receive them. Jones, Doucoure, Arne Slot, and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were all
sent off, according to Premier League confirmation.
Following an argument after the final whistle, the referee gave Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucouré second yellow
cards and red cards, according to a statement published by Premier League Match Centre. Following the final
whistle, Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also given straight red cards.

A protracted VAR review was performed on Tarkowski’s late equalizer, first for a suspected offside and then, if the
offside ruling was upheld, for a probable foul. The Premier League has not yet provided an explanation for the choice
made on the goal’s checks, though.
Everton had taken the lead when Beto latched onto a quickly taken free-kick from Jarrad Branthwaite after just 11
minutes. But Liverpool equalised by Alexis Mac Allister’s header barely five minutes later.
When Mohamed Salah put the visitors ahead late in the game, he believed he had won the Reds all three points.
However, the Toffees salvaged a point, and Tarkowski’s goal will live on in Everton legend.
Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, was questioned about the altercation after the game. “It was a very big
provocation from one certain player,” mentioned Van Dijk.
“We all witnessed it and responded as best we could as a group. Today, it all turns into one big battle, you know. The
referee is the one who must handle it, not me, and I’m not convinced he had it completely under control today.”
