Plane makes emergency landing at East Midlands Airport after engine failure

At East Midlands Airport, a cargo jet en route to Spain from Cardiff has made an emergency landing. At 12:24 p.m., the One Air aircraft departed Cardiff for Zaragoza.

The flight signaled an onboard emergency with code 7700 at 1pm. After being rerouted to East Midlands Airport, the cargo plane touched down almost an hour later.

Any general situation that isn’t a hijacking or a communication breakdown can be indicated by the squawking code 7700, which can indicate anything from a medical emergency on board to mechanical problems. “This Boeing 747 freighter is currently #1, operating a positioning flight from Cardiff to Zaragoza and squawking 7700,” according to Flightradar 24, a website that tracks flights.
