On Wednesday, a social media threat was made against Pentucket Regional Middle and High School in West Newbury. The West Newbury Police Department immediately informed the school district and launched an investigation, according to a press release.
The teenager who submitted the threat was immediately recognized, according to officials. The student’s name and social networking platform were not revealed.
On Wednesday, the school saw an increase in police presence. More police were anticipated at the school on Thursday.
Families were urged to discuss with their children the “dangers of misusing social media and the serious consequences it can bring.”
“Student safety is our first priority. Police Chief Michael Dwyer stated, “We are committed to always working with our communities to ensure schools are secure and every child can learn safely.”
The West Newbury Police continue to investigate the event.
