Sheffield Wednesday left-back Sam Reed has interest from clubs in the National League and National League North, according to The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday had a turbulent winter transfer window for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, it stopped them from strengthening quite as much as they needed at SWFC.
Ibrahim Cissoko signed on loan while Ryo Hatsuse arrived after the window’s closure on a free transfer, but the biggest bonus was agreeing a new deal to keep Shea Charles for the season.
Youngster Sean Fusire moved out on loan and there have since been some further temporary departures. Young left-back Sam Reed is among those to have been tipped to get a first-team chance out on loan, but such a move has not come to fruition yet.
Now though, The Star reports that Sheffield Wednesday talent Reed is attracting plenty of interest with a temporary move expected.
Clubs in the National League and National League North are keen but Scarborough Athletic are the only side named. The Seadogs are showing strong interest in a deal to sign Reed, with his SWFC teammate Mackenzie Maltby enjoying a fine stint on loan.
Scarborough sit 16th in the National League North. They are currently under the management of former EFL midfielder Jonathan Greening and play at the Flamingo Land Stadium.
Time for first-team football
Reed has tasted senior action before, impressing in non-league with Brighouse Town before being signed by Sheffield Wednesday in 2023. He also had a short spell with National League side Boston United earlier this season.
However, over the second half of the campaign it feels important for the 21-year-old to find senior football. His deal is up at the end of the season and it could be a chance for Reed t put himself in the shop window ahead of the summer.
The youngster has been a solid performer at youth level but the time has come for him to make the step up to the senior game for good, and 2025 could bring that.
What next for Sheffield Wednesday?

While clubs fight to sign Reed on loan, Sheffield Wednesday will be eager to pick up a second consecutive win after their triumph over Swansea City on Wednesday night.
Next up is a trip to Coventry City, who are also in the chasing pack for the play-offs. A win could even see SWFC rise into the top six, though they need to win while Bristol City and West Brom lose.
The Owls are certainly in a position to push for the top six but if they’re to strengthen their bid, consistent form and a winning run would go a long way to separating then from the numerous sides fighting to earn a place in the race.
