Kieran Trippier is not leaving Newcastle United to move to Turkey.
The Newcastle United defender was linked with a move away from St James’ Park, with Galatasaray interested in signing Kieran Trippier as they went in search of a right-back.
Geordie Boot Boys were told that Trippier was interested in the move, while Galatasaray had the added bonus of the Turkish transfer window staying open for longer.
However, February 11th has now passed and their transfer window has closed, with Kieran Trippier still a Newcastle United player.
Why Kieran Trippier is staying at Newcastle United
But it was not for lack of trying on Galatasaray’s part.
They did make an offer, with TalkSPORT reporting that Galatasaray made a bid worth £2.5million plus add-ons for Trippier.
However, it was rejected.
TalkSPORT add that Trippier has not pushed for a move away from St James’ Park due to the club reaching the Carabao Cup final. Newcastle face Liverpool at Wembley on March 16th, as the Magpies aim to end their incredibly long trophy drought.
When Kieran Trippier’s Newcastle United contract expires
Eddie Howe wanted to keep Trippier, and he is getting his wish.
Now the 34-year-old will stay on Tyneside and fight for a place in the starting XI, having recently performed so well against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. His experienced showed, with Alan Shearer praising Trippier’s performance.
It was vitally important that Trippier stayed put, and that is now happening. However, his future will be a topic of debate once again in the summer.
Trippier will be entering the final year of his Newcastle contract, with his deal due to expire in the summer of 2026. It would therefore make sense to move him on at the end of the season and at least get some money for him. However, Galatasaray’s recent offer shows that Trippier is not worth that much to suitors, and his value is only going to decrease in the coming months.
But Newcastle have looked after the short-term by keeping Trippier, and it is a decision that will hopefully pay off.
