Phil Thompson backtracks after Everton stadium jibe, Allardyce in hysterics – ‘Sorry’

The final derby between Everton and Liverpool, their bitter rivals, will take place at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, February 12.

The Toffees will soon relocate to their brand-new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which appears to be absolutely stunning in recently released video.

However, while previewing this most recent match on Sam Allardyce’s No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Liverpool great Thompson could not resist having a laugh at the new stadium.

Phil Thompson takes fresh Everton swipe

“It’s fitting they have a 25,000-seater stadium down there at the waterfront,” Thompson remarked [11 February, 34m 18s].

Knowing full well that the venue will eventually hold almost 52,000 spectators, Allardyce chuckled at that comment.

Then Thompson changed his mind and said, “Will there be more? Apologies, 52,000.

The former manager and player for Liverpool continued by saying that the stadium appears “magnificent.”

What capacity is Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock?

The official capacity of the new ground is 52,888 and, as per the club’s official website, has already won plaudits and accolades with its eye-catching design that blends the modern with the traditional.

Liverpool City Mayor Steve Rotheram recently got it badly wrong with his announcement for Everton fans who look forward travelling to Bramley-Moore Dock, with the countdown now fully under way.

Indeed, 10,000 lucky fans will soon be invited along for the first test event at the new stadium, which is part of the process of eventually opening at full capacity.

When the upcoming season begins, Everton will be ready to host 52,888 fans, ushering in a new era for the Toffees.

David Moyes’s job is to keep Everton in the Premier League till then. That seemed like a huge challenge not too long ago.

However, it is now undoubtedly a matter of looking up rather than down at the relegation zone due to a strong run of league play.

And if the Blues manage to pull off an unexpected victory versus Liverpool, it will only serve to uplift the spirits during this incredibly exciting time.
