With Rangers eliminated from the competition in shocking manner at Queen’s Park, the Jambos found themselves in the high echelons of the odds book to win their first title in 13 years. The opening hour in Paisley indicated another year of waiting, with a lethargic performance playing out.
On a bobbly surface, chances were few and far between, but Craig Gordon in the Hearts goal was not put to the test. When their big chance arrived, the Buddies pounced, with Mikael Mandron bundling in from close range with the visitors unable to do anything to restore parity.
