Watford FC set for triple boost ahead of Leeds United
Recently, Tom Cleverley’s team has been severely impacted by suspensions and injuries, which has undoubtedly added to their four-game losing streak.
Even though they gave up late in the game to draw 2-2, the Hornets will be greatly encouraged by their performance against Sunderland last time out.
As Watford hosts league leaders Leeds, things don’t get any easier. Cleverley’s team will undoubtedly face yet another difficult test.
However, the BBC announced that Ogbonna, Larouci, and Vata are all in the running to play, which was a positive development prior to kickoff.
According to the update, a camp ailment prevented the three from making the lengthy journey north to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, but there is now hope that they will play later.
Cleverley still has to cope with some absences, though, as January recruit Caleb Wiley is still recovering to full health and Vakoun Bayo is still serving a suspension following his dismissal in the team’s most recent loss to Norwich City.
Given that Daniel Farke rested the majority of his first team during Saturday’s FA Cup loss to Millwall, Leeds will undoubtedly fancy their chances against Watford, given the table indicates that this is the most difficult match in the Championship right now.
Championship Table (as of 11/2/25) | ||||
Team | P | GD | Pts | |
5 | West Brom | 31 | 13 | 47 |
6 | Blackburn Rovers | 31 | 4 | 45 |
7 | Middlesbrough | 30 | 10 | 44 |
8 | Norwich City | 31 | 7 | 43 |
9 | Bristol City | 31 | 2 | 42 |
10 | Watford | 31 | -2 | 42 |
Watford will, however, rise to the challenge, and the team will have a fantastic opportunity to get closer to the play-off spots.
The performance against Sunderland demonstrated that the Watford team still has a lot of talent, and it will boost their confidence going into what promises to be another challenging match.
The bench was poor on Saturday, so having three first-team players back is certainly a plus. However, the manager will now have choices to rotate things up as the starting lineup ages.
Additionally, Cleverley will remind the team that they played a great game against Leeds last season, drawing 2-2 at Vicarage Road when the Whites were vying for promotion. Leeds advanced to a two-goal lead after just seven minutes in the most recent rematch at Elland Road, where they won 2-1.
