A person was discovered deceased at a train station in Greater Manchester. Officers were called to Eccles station around 4.15 p.m. on Sunday (February 9).
British Transport Police and North West Ambulance Service both responded to the event. The train line between Manchester and Newton-le-Willows was closed as emergency personnel worked on the area.
Unfortunately, despite emergency personnel’ best efforts, a person was pronounced deceased on the site. British Transport Police stated this morning (Monday) that the death is not being investigated as suspicious.
A case is being prepared for the coroner, with an inquest expected at a later date. National Rail warned customers of potential inconvenience in the Salford region following the incident on Sunday afternoon.

Services to and from Victoria and Oxford Road were cancelled or delayed as a result of the incident, including Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales. Services resumed as usual later on Sunday evening.
