Ex-Norwich City Footballer Devonte Aransibia Dies Aged 26

Former Norwich City and Maidstone United player Devonte Aransibia has passed away at the age of just 26 and his family have set up a GoFundMe in memory of the late central midfielder. Beginning his career in Norfolk for the Canaries, London-born Aransibia was a regular feature in their youth set-up before departing the club in 2018 as a means of getting senior minutes under his belt. He opted for Billericay Town.Aransibia took a few years off from football before making a comeback for Chelmsford and Welling United. After a stint with Tonbridge Angels in November 2022, he was lured to Maidstone United, where he played a part in the George Elokobi-led FA Cup fairytale as the National League team won seven straight games to advance to the fifth round. He scored in the opening round victory over Chesham, a team he joined in the summer of 2024, before the non-league team defeated second-tier team Ipswich Town, who were about to be promoted to the Premier League. The GoFundMe page, set up by his family in the aftermath of his passing, reads: “It is with heavy hearts that we come together to honour the life of Dev, a loving partner, devoted father, cherished son, and dear friend to so many. “Beyond his loving nature, Dev was a talented footballer whose passion and drive propelled him to great success on the pitch.” the loving statement concluded.

Tributes, as a genuine monument to his character, have rapidly flooded in for the young professional. Tonbridge chief Jay Saunders said: “It’s devastating news. Devonte was an excellent football player and a decent person. Despite his calm demeanor, he was a really kind child. His family and all those affected have my deepest sympathies. I’m genuinely devastated.

“He was a very quiet lad when he first came in, keeping to himself, and once he came out of his shell, he was a massive player for us and a massive part of everything we did,” he added.
