Adam Idah Wants to “Prove” Critics Wrong With Bayern Munich Result
Adam Idah has insisted that Celtic are not just satisfied with reaching the Champions League knockout stage, as they prepare to face Bayern Munich in a mouth-watering game at Celtic Park.
The striker, who bagged a brace against Aston Villa last month, is keen to lead the line with confidence following the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes in January.
Despite Bayern’s status as six-time European champions, Idah has rubbished the idea that Celtic are just along for the ride, making it clear that the Hoops think they can compete and secure results over the two legs.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Idah emphasised the importance of these European nights and what it means to serve Celtic on the biggest stage:
“This is why you want to be at a club like Celtic, these games, these ties, that everyone wants to play in,” he said to The National.
“They are big, big games. Bayern Munich are one of the best teams in the world so it’s exciting for everyone.
“To be honest, whatever team we got it wasn’t going to be easy when we got this far. But, like I said, we’re all excited, these are the games we want to play in. Hopefully we can get results and do our bit.
Our aim is to try and do the best we can and try to get wins in both stadiums.
“I don’t think the pressure’s off because we’re in the knockout stages of football now.
I don’t think anyone in the changing room or in this building thinks that we’re going to lose the game or get beaten.
It’s not a one-off game, we want to go out there and show to people why we’re so good and why we’re still this far in the competition.”
Idah’s brace against Aston Villa seemed to ignite his confidence, and with Kyogo no longer in the squad, the responsibility to lead Celtic’s attack now fully rests on his shoulders.
His physical presence, work rate, and ability to link up play will be vital against a formidable Bayern defence.
With the news of Maeda’s ban getting lifted, making him available for the first leg of the encounter, Brendan Rodgers has a selection headache.
Who does he start up top, Maeda, who’s off the back of a hat trick, or Adam Idah, who’s finding confidence and can relieve some pressure from the side with his hold-up play?
