Sheffield Wednesday might face “harsh” punishment after losing 2-1 to West Brom, according to Keith Hackett.

West Brom moved up to fifth place in the Championship after a thrilling win at The Hawthorns on Saturday (8 February).

The Baggies suffered a setback when Kyle Bartley received a red card for raising his arm at Svante Ingelsson after the game.

As a result, both sets of players clashed on the pitch while the celebrations continued in the Hawthorns stands.

West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday face an FA probe.

Former West Brom staff member Pat Frost believes Bartley might face a long suspension.

According to former FIFA and Premier League referee Hackett, both teams may face charges for failing to control their players following a heated argument at full time.

“The FA will investigate the strike after the final whistle, as well as any other player misconduct,” Hackett told West Brom News.

“I expect both clubs to be charged with failure to control their players, which would appear harsh on the away team.”

Kyle Bartley is poised to miss an important run of West Brom games.

If Bartley receives the regulatory three-match punishment, he will miss games against Blackburn Rovers, Millwall, and Oxford United.

If the FA decides to extend his punishment, he may have to miss games against Leeds United and QPR.

It’s unclear why Bartley felt compelled to take matters into his own hands.

The points were in the bag, and there should have been time to rejoice with his teammates and fans.

Tony Mowbray was likely upset with the veteran defender, who was chastised by commentator Luke Chambers for his “absolutely ridiculous” conduct.

West Brom now face a critical stretch of games without one of their regulars, but maybe others will come up to fill the hole for Mowbray.
