The most recent Rangers and Celtic news following a seismic week in the city.
It’s been a shocking weekend in Glasgow, as Rangers’ defeat opens the way for Celtic treble triumph.
On paper, the Old Firm rivals’ Scottish Cup last-16 ties against Championship opponents at Raith Rovers and Queen’s Park were uncomplicated. And it was business as usual for the Hoops, who defeated Rovers 5-0 at Parkhead.
With a dramatic 1-0 triumph at Ibrox, Queen’s Park broke the script apart and put more pressure on Rangers manager Philippe Clement. Celtic, who have already won the Premier Sports Cup and led the Premiership by 13 points, are now overwhelming favourites to win a treble.
Here are the latest Rangers and Celtic headlines for the new week.
It’s all going well for Celtic, but Michael Nicholson and the board have come under fire for failing to sign a striker in the last days of the transfer market. Elena Sadiku, Celtic’s women’s manager, has now asked for greater support from the CEO and the Celtic hierarchy, despite the fact that her SWPL budget is less than that of title rivals Rangers and Glasgow City. She stated, “We need more investment for the squad.” We don’t have the biggest budget for players, and we need to boost it. We need to make it look more like Rangers and Glasgow City.
“Michael Nicholson and the board support me and our strategy, but it will take time. We need more leaders and experienced players. But to do so, we need a larger budget to attract players with that expertise, which we cannot afford. Our budget is comparable to Hearts and Hibs. As a club, we must consider how we intend to spend and expand.”
He added, “I did say that was the next marker, so get a goal.” What a beautiful dip of the shoulder. I assume it passes through Liam Kelly’s legs. This is not good defence from Jefte; it is downright horrible. “Get out and block him; he sells himself.”
