‘I could rape you’ – Sex beast’s chilling threat after grabbing lone woman

Ben Cotterill grabbed the woman walking home from Stoke Station

A dangerous pervert Ben Cotterill told a woman, “I could rape you right now,” after grabbing her by the neck. The

frightened woman fled home after a delivery man rescued her.

However, she now needs counselling as a result of the sexual attack. Cotterill was recently sentenced to 32 months in

prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years. He has a long

criminal record that includes 66 convictions and 149 crimes, including four prior sexual offences.

According to prosecutor Barry White, the woman observed the defendant standing in the centre of the road at 10.15

p.m. one evening while she was making her way home from Stoke Station.

“The defendant yelled something at her,” Mr. White stated. He sprinted in her direction. Pressing himself against her

back and bum, he put his arm around her neck. ‘Get off me’ she repeated multiple times. “I could f****** rape you

right now,” he said.

She kept screaming because she was afraid. For a minute he clung to her, pressing his crotch against her butt. He

violently shoved her into a barrier. She kept saying, ‘Get off me’.

“A delivery man stepped in to help her and shoved him away. She summoned friends and family and went to the

protection of her house. The cops were summoned by her buddy.

“What are you doing?” the driver asked. Don’t touch the girls. In response, the defendant said,

Cotterill was arrested and denied any assault.

The woman described herself as astonished and very shaken in a victim statement. She worries that she will never be

the same person again because of the decline in her mental health.

On October 15, 2024, the defendant also took a bottle of vodka from Bargain Booze in Trentham and a hot tub from

B&Q in Meir Park.

Cotterill, of Weston Coyney’s The Moat, entered a guilty plea to two charges of shoplifting and sexual assault.

The court heard that he had previously engaged in sexual offences such as sexual assault, two exposures, and

indecent behaviour in a police station.

Rashad Mohammed, mitigating, said: “It was an isolated one-off incident which is unlikely to be repeated. This was

an unpleasant incident. His memory at the time was extremely poor. He was behaving irrationally. The reason for

that was because of the substance he had consumed. He had taken drugs at the time. It was opportunistic. He asks

me to express his regret and remorse.”

The court heard Cotterill has been diagnosed with psychosis and suffers from depression and anxiety.

Mr Rashad added: “He has not taken drugs for a number of months. That is something he is proud of. It has blighted

most of his life.”

Cotterill was informed by recorder Robert Smith: “You took her by the neck and kept it there for a minute. You

‘f****** rape her right now’ while you had your arm around her neck and a lone female. She was utterly terrified. To persuade you to stop and seek someone to aid her, she yelled uncontrollably. She was helped by a delivery man who

was passing by. His words were, “What are you doing?” Avoid touching girls. In response, you said, “I can touch who I want.”

He went on: “I think you’re a dangerous man. You are entitled, conceited, and completely disrespectful of authority. I

dread to think what might have happened after you pushed her into the fence if the driver had not intervened. She

was an especially vulnerable lone female walking home at night. Her entire life was turned on its head.”
