How Leeds United compare now to promotion year under Marcelo Bielsa in 2019-20 after 31 games
Leeds United is just focused on the Championship promotion battle now that they were eliminated from the FA Cup
on Saturday. Daniel Farke’s club is only 15 games away from the top level.
Farke will be privately looking at the silver lining despite Saturday’s 2-0 setback to Millwall, which might break an
unblemished streak. It involves taking an extra two or three days off when Leeds could have played.
Before Leeds defeated Coventry 2-0, Carlton Palmer explained that the team needed 30 points from the remaining
48. If nine victories are required, Leeds has fifteen games left.
After 31 games, Leeds leads Sheffield United by two points, and Chris Wilder’s team began the season with a -2
record. As the season enters its last third, Burnley is in third place, five points behind Leeds.
Where Leeds United sat after 31 games back in 2019-20
The end of Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion year was far better than the beginning. Like coach Farke, the Argentine had to
deal with a Leeds team that had lost in the playoffs but was in second place after 31.
Leeds only won 93 points in 2019–20, but they won the Championship by an overwhelming 10 points. They have 55
points after 31 games, which was 11 fewer than Leeds’ current total under Farke.
Leeds had 16 victories from 31 Championship games in 2019–20 under Bielsa, compared to 19 wins this season. It’s
interesting to note that Leeds’ goal differential is superior to Bielsa’s at this point in 2020.

Leeds went on an incredible run in last 15 games under Bielsa
After a 2-0 loss at Nottingham Forest in February 2020, Bielsa’s Leeds went on an incredible run that saw The
Whites obtain a huge 38 points from the next 15 games. An average of 2.53 points from a possible 3.
As of right now, Leeds has a 2.12 average. The Whites would finish with a huge 104 points, which seems really
impossible, if they scored an additional 38 points like Bielsa did in their previous 15 league games.
Leeds, however, has done it before. According to Palmer, Leeds would need nine victories to reach the 93-point total
that Bielsa’s team reached five years ago in order to gain promotion.
