Gareth Bale’s teammate slams two Southampton starters for awful decision making

Southampton faced a disappointing elimination by Burnley in the FA Cup. Post-match, pundit Ashley Williams pointed out the Saints’ blunder that deprived them of a win.

Quick question: Do you know anything about Gareth Bale? Now I see that asking such a question would be absurd. Even yet, it’s possible that many people are unaware that he began his career at Southampton.
In fact, before becoming a football icon, Bale graduated from the Saints program.

Few would argue that a commander of such an icon is an unwise man. That’s why his former Wales captain Ashley Williams’ words are so crucial to the Saints.

Williams recently blasted Southampton’s performance in their FA Cup loss to Burnley. Notably, rather than harping on their well-known offensive flaws, the commentator emphasized their massive defensive gaffe.

According to the Daily Echo, Williams emphasized the Saints’ backline movement that resulted in Burnley’s winning goal, saying: “If you keep an eye on Bree and Bednarek, they drop off instead of what we just saw from Joe Worrall, stepping forward and winning the ball.”
Throughout the game, the Saints’ backline appeared to lack confidence. If they had acted aggressively in instances like these, the outcome might have been in their favor.

Nonetheless, given the absence of outstanding prospect Taylor Harwood-Bellis for the game, such an error was not surprising. Given the balanced defensive style he brings to a lethargic Saints backline, he was greatly missed by the supporters.

Don’t get me wrong: a defense led by veteran Jan Bednarek is unquestionable, but it’s also not incorrect to argue that he falters under pressure.

For Southampton, the position is fairly apparent. Either improve their defensive style to make it more fluid, or prepare for more stinging eliminations. The decision is simple, isn’t it?
